Mandatory Incidental Fees
For the 2025/26 academic year
Incidental fees areÌýpaid by all studentsÌýat ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ University. These areÌýmandatory, non-academic fees,Ìýin addition to your tuition, that help to fund various student programs. Incidental fees are outlined below, and subject to change.

Student Service fee
This fee provides ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ University students with administrative, athletics (full-time students) and health services.

ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ Student Union fee
Every student registered at ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ University is a member of the () and required to pay a Student Union fee as part of the registration procedure. These fees have been approved by students in referenda and, along with other revenue of the Union, are allocated each year by the Student Council budget.

University Bus Pass fee (U-Pass)
The U-Pass is a transit pass specifically for full-time ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ students, valid for unlimited use, 7 days a week from September 1, 2025 - April 30, 2026. U-Pass is accepted on all conventional Metro Transit buses and ferries. Additional fare may be required on premium routes, such as MetroLink and Community Transit buses.
- The current cost is $175.33 and is charged in the fall term. For students beginning in January, a prorated fee is charged.
- Full time Spring/Summer students will be charged $86.36 (May-Aug).
You may be eligible to waive the UPass. Visit the U-Pass site for more information.
Society Fee
This fee provides membership in student societies and is charged per term.
Additionally, all International students pay $5.00 per term for membership in the ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ International Student Association Society.
Facilities Renewal fee
This fee is assessed to all students to assist with deferred building maintenance.

Fitness Facilities Renewal fee - Recreation Fall & Winter 2025/26
$90 per term for all full time students to a max of $180 per academic year. This fee contributes to the deferred maintenance and upgrades of ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ's athletic facilities, for the
ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ Student Union - Health Plan fee
Only full time students that start in September are automatically enrolled on the plan. If you are on a co-op work term, exchange, are a distance student, or are starting in January you must OPT IN to the plan. The DSU Health Plan provides benefits at a lower cost compared to traditional group plans.
The cost of the DSU Health and Dental Plan for 1 year (September - August) is $488.86. Students with equivalent insurance may apply to Opt Out through Dal Online. For more information please visit the .

Medical Campus Response Team
The ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ Medical Campus Response Team is a student-run volunteer organization that focuses on providing first aid to the university community.

Fall Orientation/Transition Week
Your ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ Student Union and ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ University work together to coordinate Orientation Week (O-Week) programming for new students! The Orientation Pass (O-Week Pass) fee, included in your student account, is your ticket to all the O-Week events and activities.
This includes access to concerts, games, socials, and other welcome events happening on and around campus. These programs are made possible in part thanks to this fee.
For most incoming undergraduate students studying on the Halifax campus, the $130 O-Week Pass fee is automatically included in your tuition and fees. If you are a new ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ student who is unable to participate in Orientation Week, you can request to opt out and receive a refund through your student fee statement. The deadline to opt out is available at dsu.ca/oweek Opt outs are only available before the deadline.
If cost is a barrier, financial waivers are available for students who would like to participate in Orientation programming but are experiencing financial need

Steps to opt out:
- Log into dal online:
- Select the ‘Student’ tab
- Click the ‘Additional Fee/Waiver Application Form’ link
- In the ‘Select a Term’ drop down choose 2025/2026 Fall
- For the plan ‘ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ Orientation Fee Opt-Out Application’ choose: Apply.
- Read and click through the information and disclaimer screens and then enter a reason for opting out. Once complete, submit the opt-out request.

ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ Student Union - International Health Plan fee
All international, visiting and exchange students coming to ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ University are required to have a comprehensive health insurance plan. All students are automatically enrolled in the mandatory ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ International Student Health Plan. In addition, all full-time students are also enrolled in the ÑÇÖÞ91ÊÓÆµ Student Union Health Plan. These fees will be applied directly to your student account.
