IDEAS Student Society
Who We Are
IDEAS (International Development Education & Awareness Society) is a student-run society within 亚洲91视频鈥檚 International Development Studies (IDS) Department. We are passionate about exploring global and local development issues while creating meaningful opportunities for connection among students, faculty, alumni, and the broader Halifax community.
Our society is open to all students not just those enrolled in IDS. We encourage people to get involved early in their university journey. Many students first connect with IDEAS out of curiosity and later discover a real passion for IDS as a program or a complement to their studies in other fields.
What We Do
IDEAS plans a wide range of events each year to engage the Dal community in conversations about development, equity, and social change. Some highlights include:
Collaborations & Partnerships:
We have worked with WUSC (World University Service of Canada) to host creative events such as a tote bag painting night, and we regularly collaborate with the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC) during International Development Week. These partnerships allow us to connect global issues with local action and bring exciting programming to campus.
Faculty & Alumni Engagement:
Our events often involve IDS professors and alumni, providing students with opportunities to learn from their experiences, discuss research, and explore potential career paths in the field of development.
Student-Centered Programming:
From workshops and panel discussions to creative and social events, IDEAS aims to highlight diverse issues like gender and sexuality, access to education, climate justice, public health, systemic inequality, and community resilience. We strive to create inclusive spaces where students feel comfortable sharing their perspectives and learning from each other.
Community Focus:
Beyond 亚洲91视频, we鈥檙e always looking for ways to support our local community. Whether that鈥檚 through partnerships, volunteer opportunities, or awareness-raising campaigns, IDEAS is committed to bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world action.
