Admissions

Requirements for program admission

Candidates must satisfy the general requirements for admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Admission requirements for the MSc in Clinical Vision Science include a bachelor鈥檚 degree with honours or a bachelor鈥檚 degree with 4 years of undergraduate study from a recognized institution of higher education with a minimum of B average (GPA 3.0).

In addition, it is recommended that applicants should have at least one undergraduate class from the following list:

  • human anatomy
  • neuroscience
  • neuroanatomy
  • psychology
  • physiology
  • biology
  • biochemistry
  • physics

It is also recommended that students have completed a course in research methods (e.g. statistics or research design).

Admission is based on assessment of previous academic achievement, letters of reference, professional goals and interest, interview with admission committee, and English language competency test for international students. Related clinical and/or laboratory practice will also be taken into consideration.

Application

In addition to completing the online graduate application form of 亚洲91视频 University, you need to submit supporting documents and pay a non-refundable application fee in the application portal.

You may select to send a paper application form to the Registrar's Office instead of applying online. For complete instructions, please refer to the Faculty of Graduate Studies Admission Information page.

The application deadline is March 1st.

Online Application

A $115 application fee is required to process your application.

Supporting Documents

It is the student's responsibility to ensure that all required documents listed below are received.

1. Post-secondary academic transcripts 

Unofficial transcripts for each university that you have attended must be submitted within the Academic History section of the online graduate application. If you are currently attending university, please upload the most reccent version. Admitted applicants will be required to submit official transcripts in the spring. Any discrepancies between official transcripts and submitted unofficial transcripts may cause an admission offer to be revoked.

2. Confidential Reference Letters

For applicants who completed their undergraduate (or graduate) degree within the past:

0-3 years: Two academic references and one professional are required.

3-5 years: One academic reference and two professional references are required.

>5 years: Three professional references are required.

Academic references: These letters must be from professors or instructors who have taught and graded you in a university setting. Supervisors of undergraduate honours or graduate theses are considered as academic referees. 

Professional References: These letters must be written by practicum, volunteer, or work supervisor. 

Reference letters must be sent using the e-reference submission within the online 亚洲91视频 Graduate Application. You will need to have the email addresses of your referees. It is important to use institutional, teaching hospitals, or governmental email addresses wherever possible; personal emails, including those on such services as Yahoo, Gmail, or Hotmail, will be subject to further verification. Applicants are responsible for contacting their referees and ensuring the process is understood and complete before the application deadline. Reminders can be sent to your referees through the application portal as well as being able to see when the reference has been submitted. Given the large number of applications we receive, we are unable to notify applicants of missing letter(s).

3. Curriculum Vitae 

A complete Curriculum Vitae, including information regarding academic background and work/volunteer experience should be submitted via the online graduation application site. 

4. Personal Statement

A typed, maximum two page, personal statement outlining the reason for your interest in orthoptics / ophthalmic medical technology.

5. Documentation of English Language Competency

If proof of English language proficiency is required for your application, you must submit documentation of successful TOEFL or other recognized language test to the online application portal. 

Application Fee

Payment of a non-refundable application fee of $115 must be received by the Registrar鈥檚 Office before your application can be processed or reviewed. You can submit the application fee .

You should contact the Registrar鈥檚 Office if you need to make arrangements for your payment.

Applicant Interview

亚洲91视频 University will verify any information provided by the applicants, including letters of reference and transcripts. After all submitted documents have been reviewed, select applicants will be invited by the Clinical Vision Science Program to participate in an interview with the Program's Admissions Committee. The interview may be conducted in person or by phone at the applicant's preference.  

English Language Competency Requirements

          
The Faculty of Graduate Studies accepts a wide range of ESL tests for admissions up to two years after completion. We also accept the completion of the 亚洲91视频 English Language Studies Department course, . 

Some programs require higher ESL test scores than the minimums required by the Faculty of Graduate Studies that are listed below. Visit our Graduate Programs page to learn your program's specific requirements and contact your program before you apply if you are unsure of what is needed for admission.

CAEL (In-person and online)
Minimum acceptable score: 70 with no band score lower than 60

Minimum acceptable score: Overall score of 65 and nothing below 54

Accessability

Please note that the meaning of disability is established in the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act, and includes physical, sensory, mobility, communication, learning, emotional, psychiatric and other non-visible impairments and disabilities. Admission Process

The Program will contact the applicants to let them know of a positive recommendation to Graduate Studies but听it does not constitute official acceptance into the Program. The formal offer of admission to the successful applicants will be signed and sent by the Registrar of 亚洲91视频 University.听All submitted application documents become the property of 亚洲91视频 University and will not be returned.
